2018 Makeup Favorites

In today's post, I wanted to take a look back on some of my favorite makeup products from the previous year. I tried a lot of great products in 2018 & I'm excited to share them with you! Enjoy!

EYES

Milani Eyeshadow Primer // $6.99

Before I put on eyeshadow, I always start with this Milani primer. Over the summer, I was having an issue with my eyeshadows creasing and fading quicker than they have in the past (without using any base/primer) and I decided to try this since it is really one of the only drugstore eye primers that I've heard good things about. From the first time I tried it, I knew I loved it. All it takes is a tiny amount that I blend in with my finger and that's enough to secure the eyeshadow all day.

Colourpop Pressed Powder Eyeshadow Palettes // $16-$20

Colourpop makes so many incredible products, but one of my absolute favorites is their pressed powder palettes. The formula is very dependable and consistent throughout every palette they sell. I have personally tried 3 of them; the "Yes, Please" palette, which has a beautiful selection of bright, but wearable, warm tones that is versatile for every season and every occasion - the "My Little Pony" palette, which has such a unique selection of colorful shades that is perfect for you if you like more subdued colorful tones. I've never seen another palette with these kinds of shades! - and lastly the "It's a Princess Thing" palette from the new Disney Designer collection, which has something for everyone. There's a gorgeous selection of neutral matte shades that compliment the bright metallics, with a few pops of color throughout.

If these 3 palettes aren't your style, I recommend checking out the Colourpop website because they have dozens of palettes available right now & come out with more basically every week. I really can't recommend these enough!

Disney Designer // limited edition

Wet n Wild Color Icon 10 Pan Palette // $4.99

This is such a versatile palette that makes cohesive looks on it's own, or can compliment other palettes and single shadows so nicely. It's also the most affordable palette at the drugstore, while having some of the highest quality in my opinion. The shades are very reminiscent of the iconic Modern Renaissance palette from Anastasia Beverly Hills, and from reviews I've seen the formulas are actually very similar (except this one is $37 cheaper!) One of my favorite eyeshadows ever is the matte camel brown on the bottom. I use it everyday and it compliments so many different eye looks. It's perfect for travel because it has such small and compact packaging.

Rosé in the Air

Colourpop Super Shock Shadows // $5

I have loved this product for years and recommend it to everyone looking to try Colourpop for the first time. The Super Shock formula is so innovative and unlike any other eyeshadow I've ever tried. It's a really cool cream putty consistency that has strong color payoff just by applying it with your finger. There's tons of shades available in all different finishes. I tend to gravitate towards their metallic & glitter finishes because it gives such an intense shine and sparkle with absolutely no fallout. They don't crease on me or fade throughout the day, either. I have worn these for hours and hours before and at the end of the day, it still looked as if I just applied them. Colourpop makes some of the best products and these are my absolute favorite!

Camila Cabello x L'Oréal Havana Single Shadows // $9.99

I tried a few products from the Camila Cabello Havana collection and was so impressed with everything. These single shadows are so pigmented and long wearing. The gold shade is called "Oh-Na-Na" (love that name!) and it is so pigmented with a strong metallic payoff. I apply this one with just my finger since it has more of a cream to powder consistency, similar to the Colourpop Super Shock Shadows I mentioned previously.

The emerald green glitter shade is called "Hot Havana" and is applied best with a dense brush to get the full pigment. The glitter is very vibrant when applied, which surprised me because I thought it was going to be an overspray. This is the only green eyeshadow I've ever tried and I love the way it looks! It's perfect if you're looking to experiment with colored eyeshadows, but still want to keep it neutral.

These were a bit expensive for single shadows, but they are beautiful shades and very high quality. I never really tried any L'Oréal products, but now I definitely want to try out more soon!

Wet n Wild Liquid Catsuit Eye Shadow // $4.99

Liquid shadows are really popular right now, but from what I've tried (both high end and drugstore priced), these are the absolute best. I used to love the Stila Magnificent Metals, until I found this product that is the exact same, if not better, and less than a quarter of the price. This Wet n Wild Liquid Catsuit Shadow adds so much sparkle and dimension to any eyeshadow look. You can apply it straight from the applicator all over the lid for a fully pigmented effect, or put a swipe of it on the middle of the lid and blend it in with your finger to compliment the eyeshadow underneath with a glittery topcoat. I've also worn this product all day long without any fading, creasing, or fallout. If you're looking for a mess-free approach to glittery makeup, this is the product for you!

My favorite shade is called "Goldie Lux" which looks like a chartreuse in the tube but it applies as a light gold on the eye. I used it so much that it's completely empty, so I'm gonna need to repurchase it next time I go to Ulta!

Goldie Lux
Cashmere Love

Flower Beauty Lash Warrior Mascara // $9.99

This has been my most used and repurchased mascara of the year! For the last 2 years or so, I've loved the Maybelline Push Up Angel mascara, which is very lengthening, but I was looking for a product that would give more volume and length all in one - which is exactly what the Lash Warrior does! It lasts all day without flaking, smudging, or irritating my eyes. Mascara works different for everyone, but I highly recommend this one if you haven't tried it yet!

LIPS

Flower Beauty Galaxy Glaze Lip Gloss // $9.99

This is my absolute favorite lip gloss! This gloss adds so much shine to the lips in a very wearable way. My favorite is "Milky Way" which is a pinky-mauve shade with tons of silver sparkle - pictures really can't do it justice. My mom and I have bought this product probably 6 or 7 times by now, that's how great it is!

Milky Way

Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipsticks & Lip Ammunition Lipsticks // $18

I don't normally buy high end products, but Jeffree Star's lipsticks are worth every penny. The colors are so unique especially in comparison to other brands. I love both the Velour Liquid Lipsticks & the Lip Ammos he sells. Both have extreme pigment in just one swipe, last all day and feel so comfortable.

I have 3 Velour Liquid Lipsticks, which all have different finishes. "Calabasas" is a beautiful terracotta shade with the classic matte velour finish. It's one of my favorite lipsticks of all time (& I love the name! It reminds me of when I actually went to Calabasas for the first time last year!) "Poinsettia" is a vibrant red metallic shade, which is especially perfect for the holiday season. I've tried a lot of metallic lipsticks, and this is the absolute best! "Hi, How Are Ya?" is a red shade with hot pink undertones with glitter infused in the formula. Once it dries, when you rub your lips together, it reveals a layer of red and pink glitter - it's such a cool concept!

The Lip Ammunition formula has a satin finish that doesn't dry down at all, but it lasts as long as a matte lipstick would. "Unicorn Blood" is a deep blood red shade that is my absolute favorite dark lipstick to wear. I normally only like dark shades in matte liquid lipstick formulas, but this is an exception. The shade "Alien Tears" is completely different than any lipstick I've ever tried - it feels like a lip balm on the lips, but gives such a gorgeous layer of multi-dimensional pink glitter with a little bit of a green reflect. It can be worn alone, or added on top of a lipstick for a pop of glitter.

Like I said, Jeffree Star's lipsticks are incredible and I can't recommend them enough!

Kylie Cosmetics Matte Liquid Lipstick // $17

Kylie Cosmetics has a lot of hype built up around it, but for very good reason. I've only tried a couple of lipsticks from the brand, but they are very high quality and last all day on the lips. My favorite and most used shade is "Candy K" which is a warm pinky nude with brown undertones. I've used it so much that I hardly even have any product left in the tube! This is one of my all time favorite lipsticks and clearly one of my most used.

As a tip to save some money on her products, I recommend buying the single lipsticks (which cost $16-$18) compared to the $29 Lip Kit. There are plenty of great drugstore lip liners available that match her liquid lipsticks perfectly and can save you a lot of money! My favorite lip liners are from Essence, Wet n Wild & NYX.

Now that Kylie is sold at Ulta, I'm excited to try more of her products!

Flower Beauty Petal Pout Lipstick // $9.99

When it comes to traditional bullet lipsticks, this is my absolute favorite. Flower Beauty makes so many of my favorite products, but I especially love their lip products. This lipstick is a matte finish, but doesn't dry out your lips like other matte formulas can. It lasts all day, even after eating and drinking. I have the shade "Berry-More", which is such a cute name since the brand is owned by Drew Barrymore. It's a warm-toned berry that would flatter any skin tone. The packaging is also so beautiful and feels high-end.

A few months ago, I saw a video of Drew Barrymore using these lipsticks as a crème blush, which I now do everyday too. I put it underneath my powder blush (my favorite is also from Flower Beauty, which will be mentioned later in this list) and I find that it prolongs the wear time of it. If you love blush as much as I do, I recommend trying that trick out!

Berry-More

Camila Cabello x L'Oréal Havana Lip Dew // $9.99

This lip gloss adds such a naturally pretty glow to your lips. It has a gel-like consistency that feels very moisturizing without feeling sticky. It just adds a tint of color, so I like to wear it alone or layered with other glosses. I've heard it is also very comparable to the iconic Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb, so if you're like me and not looking to spend $18 on just a lip gloss, I highly recommend this one!

Lit Up

FACE

Flower Beauty Flower Pot Blush // $9.99

This blush adds such a nice flush of color to the cheeks. All of the shades have a satin finish, which makes it blend into the skin even better. It originally had cute imprint of a flower on the pan, but it's almost completely gone since I've used it so much. Flower Beauty makes so many incredible products and I'm so happy I discovered this brand in 2018!

Shade Shown:
Wild Rose

Wet n Wild MegaGlo Loose Highlighting Powder // $6.99

I never used a loose highlighter before this one, but I found that it is so much more pigmented and glowy than any of my pressed powder highlights. It's a gorgeous frosty champagne shade that gives such a brightening and mirrored effect to the face. It also looks beautiful as an inner corner highlight!

Shade Shown:
Written In The Stars // limited edition

Colourpop Super Shock Highlighter // $8

This has been my favorite highlighter for the past 2 years! "Hippo" is an icy lilac shade that looks so beautiful on any skin tone. It gives a subtle glow that would be perfect for you  if you want a toned-down colorful highlight. The Super Shock formula is incredible and definitely one of the best products Colourpop sells.
