"bad idea, right?" by Olivia Rodrigo // 7" vinyl exclusive from Interscope

"seeing you tonight...it's a bad idea, right?" "bad idea, right?"   may actually be my favorite song by   Olivia Rodrigo   yet, it's just so addictive to listen to! It was my second most-played song of 2023 , so clearly I couldn't get enough of it!  The lyrics to this song are very tongue-and-cheek, written as if it's a conversation between friends, which in a way is what the song actually started as between her and her collaborator Dan Nigro, who produced and co-wrote the song.  "Yes, I know that he's my ex, but can't two people reconnect? I only see him as a friend, the biggest lie I ever said, oh, yes, I know that he's my ex, but can't two people reconnect? I only see him as a friend, I just tripped and fell into his bed" she sings in the chorus.  "I wrote it in New York. Me and my friend, Dan, were at  Electric Lady Studios , and I was telling him about one of my fun escapades. I sent this guy a text: 'seeing yo...

looking like an angel on the walls of versailles // playlist

Image
looking like an angel on the walls of versailles is a curated playlist inspired by Olivia Rodrigo 's  you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love lead single "drop dead" - an infectious all encompassing love song that perfectly bottles the lightning‑strike first rush of a new crush and the flood of emotions that come along with it. The lyricism of this song has been feeling particularly inspiring since it was released, especially the vivid imagery she threads throughout the verses. With her long‑awaited new album finally out today, it felt like the perfect moment to put together a collection of songs that echo the feeling of "drop dead", the track that opens the album and plays such an integral role in its larger narrative. Even as the song shifts in tone and meaning across the record, "drop dead" is an incredible opener for the flood of emotions she was experiencing at this point in her life. She captures the rollercoaster of this relationship throug...

Happy Record Store Day! Olivia Rodrigo and Noah Kahan released a special edition 7" vinyl single featuring covers of each other's songs recorded at BBC Radio1 Live Lounge to celebrate the biggest day of the year for independent record stores. This pressing is an indie record store exclusive released in April 2024 for Record Store Day , which is an event held twice with dozens of new and exclusive music releases special for the occasion. Olivia first recorded a cover of Noah's breakout hit "Stick Season" back in October 2023 and about a month later Noah responded with a cover of a song off of her sophomore album GUTS titled "Lacy". I first discovered Noah's music through Olivia's cover and I haven't been able to get enough of it ever since! It is such a beautiful song, he has such a strength for vivid storytelling through his music. It is a song that suits Olivia's strengths as an artist so well too.  Out of all the songs that Noah coul...

Olivia Rodrigo x Weezer Live at Lollapalooza 2025 // limited edition 7" vinyl single

As part of the final leg of her GUTS tour, Olivia Rodrigo headlined festivals all over the world, including day two of Lollapalooza in Chicago during the summer of 2025. With that set, she reportedly broke the record for the biggest headline crowd  in the festival's history, bring over 150,000 people together in Grant Park.  During her record-breaking debut set at Lolla, she was joined on stage by surprise guests Weezer . They performed two songs together, which was a very special and full-circle moment for Olivia as the band was her first ever concert when she was younger. "You always remember your first concert. It's a very, very special moment," she said before introducing the special guests. "I remember my first concert. It was a very memorable night. I watched this incredible band and I am so over the moon, because that incredible band is actually here tonight to play a few songs. Will you please say hello to Weezer?" They performed two of the band...

"deja vu" by Olivia Rodrigo // Song Review

Image
Olivia Rodrigo 's "deja vu", the second single she ever released in 2021 , solidified her as one of the defining voices of a new generation in pop music, proving she was far from another one-hit wonder. It served as the follow-up to her debut single, "drivers license" , which was a massive cultural moment and one of the biggest songs released that year. "deja vu" felt like a natural progression for her as an artist, while still carrying through some of the same themes of yearning and nostalgia of a past relationship, she also introduced a more expansive and textured sound, signaling her potential for evolution and growth that was to come with future releases.  The song was co-written and produced by Dan Nigro , her core collaborator on all of her music up to this point. The storytelling is so layered and specific lyrically, in a way that is so personal to her own life, while also maintaining a universal relatability to the experiences she shares. Thro...

The Best Songs of January 2026 // New Music Friday!

"Aperture" by Harry Styles He's baaaaack! The lead single off of Harry Styles ' long-awaited new album,  Kiss All The Time, Disco Occasionally ,  introduces a new sound and direction for him. It leans into a more electronic house sound than ever before, a clear vantage point for "Aperture" being Robyn's "Dancing On My Own" , with hints of LCD Soundsystem as well. It is a long and sprawling five minute confessional, almost feeling like a status update for where he's been for the past few years. He always writes from his own distinct perspective, shaping a narrative built around living in the moment, loving and embracing togetherness. There are so many ways for this song to be interpreted, it largely connects to "Lights Up" in the way it is a thesis statement for who he is as an artist and the encouraging environment he creates with his music, inviting the listener to just let the light in and spread love. The repeated phrase of ...
