Fire From The Hip by Finn Wolfhard // Album Review

Image
Fire From The Hip showcases Finn Wolfhard further coming into his own as an artist following the release of his debut solo album in 2025 . It presents a clear expansion of his sound and influences, with many of these songs feeling like time capsules of different moments in his life and the musical inspirations that guided him artistically through those times. The album was recorded live with an analog approach in the studio, which Finn and his collaborators set out to do in order to capture the energy of a stage performance to then be able to translate directly back into a real crowd. As the sole writer and producer of this album, Finn wanted to make a record that embodied the electric feeling of a live band, paired with the non‑digital and imperfect qualities that recording straight to tape brings to the work, reminiscent of the specific era of music he is trying to channel. In an interview with Coup de Main , Finn said, "I'll never forget recording this album. It was such ...

"Camera" by Charli xcx Charli xcx has officially released not one, but two of my very favorite albums of the year - first with the stunning Wuthering Heights concept album / soundtrack, and now with the all‑time career highlight Music Fashion Film . It was also impossible to highlight just one song from this album ("2007" and the closer "No One Lasts Forever" being very close contenders as my monthly favorites too), but "Camera" felt like the most indicative of the entire ethos of what this music represents as a whole. It is such a deeply thought‑provoking examination of what it means to pursue a life of art and stardom in the modern age; while framing the question of legacy and what an artist leaves behind (or doesn't). Closing out the trifecta of singles for music ( "Rock Music" ), fashion ( "SS26" ), and film ("Camera"), it is fully representative of who she is as an artist and what her mission is with this ...

"the cure" by Olivia Rodrigo The second single off of Olivia 's you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love is such a cathartic, existential, and melodramatic masterpiece - all of which are traits that have continually made up so much of her best work to date. If the lead single "drop dead" is the embodiment of the girl so in love portion of the album title, then "the cure" in turn feels like the representation of the you seem pretty sad aspect of the time in her life that inspired her to write this. Coming in at the midpoint of the album's tracklist, it's definitely going to serve as a crucial transition piece for the album's overarching narrative. The build‑up to the bridge and the explosive final chorus is absolutely incredible and feels so powerful with every single listen. It's genuinely one of the best songs Olivia has ever written, and also one of the greatest pop songs of recent memory, which is not an overstatement in the slig...

Happy Birthday by Finn Wolfhard // Album Review

Image
The concept for Finn Wolfhard 's debut solo album, Happy Birthday ,  was born from the challenge he gave himself in 2022 to write fifty songs by the end of the year. This nine track album ended up becoming a brief and curated glimpse into the music he made during that time.  "I started realizing a general theme in a lot of the other songs involving my identity, anxieties, nostalgia, childhood and loneliness. All of that was a part of a bigger puzzle. I knew I wanted to make a record, but I didn't know with which songs," he said in an interview with NME . Finn is best known for his role as Mike in  Stranger Things , as well as starring in two  Ghostbusters  reboots and  It , among others. Alongside his acting work, he has always been making music. In 2018 he released an EP with his band Calpurnia, and later was one half of the psych‑rock duo The Aubreys.  Happy Birthday  marks Finn's first solo music release and is largely a reflection of the conti...
