The Best Songs of April 2026 // New Music Friday!

"drop dead" by Olivia Rodrigo I already know this is going to end up being one of, if not the , top songs of my entire year. It's only been a few days and I'm already completely obsessed. "drop dead" is such a cute, sweet love song, and she captures that initial spark and breathlessness of meeting someone and falling in love for the first time in a way truly only Olivia can. It's so sharply written - especially that second verse, which I haven't been able to get out of my head since the moment I first heard it - and so earnest in the way she depicts herself falling so hard and so fast. you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love is absolutely my most anticipated album of the year, I have been waiting so long for new music from her and "drop dead" is such a strong introduction into what I'm sure is going to be an incredible record to come!  "Living Room" by Not For Radio To usher in this new season of growth and renewal, María ...

"Night Shift" by Lucy Dacus // Song Review

Image
"Night Shift" is a song made up of Lucy Dacus ' signature raw and emotive songwriting, fully realized through its six and a half minute run time. Lucy said at the time of its release that it is the only breakup song she's ever written. The song is deeply intimate and specific, building to an explosive ending. It is overall a testament to the love and memories they shared, but it also feels very much like a final word. "Night Shift" is one that wants the distance and the space to never see them again, while still recognizing the positive experiences that shaped the music born from that relationship. Its placement as the opening track of her 2018 album Historian especially interesting because by all other measures, it feels like a conclusionary song, but maybe that's the point. It opens the album because it closes the chapter on the relationship that inspired it. In an interview with  NPR , Lucy said, "For a long time I didn't believe expressing...

"Not Strong Enough" by boygenius // Song Review

Image
"Not Strong Enough" by the indie rock supergroup boygenius is an honest and reflective exploration of mental health and self-identity.  The group, consisting of singer-songwriters Phoebe Bridgers , Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker , crafted such a cleverly written and emotionally intense listening experience with their debut album, aptly titled the record ,   in 2023.  I love all three of them individually as artists and songwriters, but there is always something so special about the magic they create when they come together as a collective. "Not Strong Enough" is one of the best song they have released yet and represents the artistic identity of boygenius so perfectly. It truly feels like the heart of the record . I immediately connected so much to the message of it ever since the first listen. From being caught up in "s pinning out about things that haven't happened" and all of the inner complexities that make us who we are - it shares such a moving a...

The Best Songs of March 2025 // New Music Friday!

"Younger And Hotter Than Me" by Selena Gomez & Benny Blanco Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco released their incredible collaboration album this month and it is undoubtedly one of the very best albums of the year so far. Every single song is so perfect, I love the way they share this really heartfelt and intimate glimpse into their lives and the journey they took to get where they are now. I am so in awe of this album and how strong the artistic chemistry is between Selena and Benny. The second track, "Younger And Hotter Than Me" is one of my personal favorites, its truly one of the best songs either of them ever made. Selena opens up in such a deeply personal way about the pressures of comparison and insecurity as a woman in the entertainment industry. The music video is also so beautiful and meaningful as well, I love the way they brought all of those emotions to life in such a symbolic way.  Check out my full review of I Said I Love You First  by Selena Gomez ...
