"California" by Chappell Roan // Song Review

Image
"California" is a strikingly candid reflection on Chappell Roan 's life and early career, written right as she was on the cusp of her music breakthrough she had spent years chasing. It captures the pursuit of making a name for herself, and the fear that everything she wanted most might still be just out of reach. The weight of disappointment is at the center of this song - both the disappointment in herself, and in the fear that she's letting others down by walking away from the version of her dream she had always imagined. There is a distinct heartache to her performance as she captures the loss of hope and in wondering whether the thing she poured her heart into simply isn't going to work out. If her story in the years that followed says anything, it's that no dream is ever too far out of reach. The way that "California" was written as a moment of reflection is so relatable, especially for anyone chasing a life in the arts, and endlessly trying to...

SOUR by Olivia Rodrigo // 5 Year Anniversary Album Review

Image
Olivia Rodrigo 's debut album is such a distinct and realistic depiction of all the sweet and sour parts of what it means to be a young woman growing up and coming of age in the modern world. What was initially meant to be just an EP quickly transformed into a full-length project after the massive success of her debut single "drivers license" surpassed everyone's expectations in early 2021 . While she would go on to further develop her sound and find herself musically throughout the creation of subsequent releases, this stands as one of the defining debut albums of this generation of pop music.  Olivia has always worn both her influences and her heart on her sleeve, and SOUR feels like a natural extension of that. Each song is deeply personal, yet clearly shaped by the music that raised her. Much of  SOUR feels like modern, u...

Olivia Rodrigo's Highest Streamed Songs: Ranked // Spotify Billions Club

Image
Olivia Rodrigo has continued to be such a unique force in the streaming era of music. As of May 2026, Olivia has surpassed a billion streams on Spotify for nine different songs, making her one of the top artists on the platform. For an artist that has debuted just under five years ago and has only released two (soon to be three) albums, that is a monumental accomplishment. Several of these tracks have even surpassed the rare two billion stream mark too - for someone with a catalog of currently about thirty songs total, the scale of her impact is major. Since her debut in 2021 with her first single, "drivers license" , Olivia has been a defining voice of her generation and one of the artists most responsible for shaping the sound of this decade. Very few have made an impact as seismic and immediate as she has. In fact, she became the first artist in history to debut her first three singles - "drivers license", "deja vu" , and "good 4 u" - in the ...
