"Renegade" by Big Red Machine featuring Taylor Swift // Song Review

Image
"Renegade" was born from such a creatively fulfilling time for Taylor Swift , specifically of her work with frequent collaborators Aaron Dessner and Justin Vernon . Coming off of folklore and evermore the year prior, and in the midst of the early stages of her Taylor's Version re-releasing journey, this remains a largely underrated, but very special chapter of her music catalog thus far. Those albums were made entirely on her own terms, unburdened by the expectations that had defined her career up until then. That spontaneity and refusal to overthink is what made this era so singular in her discography thus far. "Renegade" stands out as such a raw and confessional lament, opening up in a way that feels rare, even for a songwriter that has long been known for her deep, personal storytelling.  Aaron and Justin, who have collaborated countless times over the years together, formed the duo Big Red Machine in 2018 alongside the release of their debut self-title...

The Encore by Taylor Swift // The Life Of A Showgirl Deluxe Album Review

Taylor Swift kicked out the stage lights with The Life of a Showgirl , but she's still performing. Following the largely critically panned and commercially polarizing release of her 2025 album, she came back for more with The Encore . For the last several years, especially after leaving her first label Big Machine Records in 2018, Taylor has become essentially a commercially invincible figure in music who can do - and release - anything she wants, whenever she wants. This freedom has allowed her the space to create and explore any artistic direction she desires, which in many cases has proven to be a crucial step in cementing her legacy as one of the most impactful pop artists of all time. The autonomy she has with music has allowed her to make some of the best work of her entire career; albums like folklore and  evermore ,  for example ,  wouldn't exist without this boundless ability to go against every norm in the music industry entirely at her whim.  The differen...

The Life Of A Showgirl by Taylor Swift // Album Review

Image
A wise woman once said, "You're only as hot as your last hit, baby!" - and nothing makes that feel more painfully true than the reception to Taylor Swift 's The Life of a Showgirl , arguably the most divisive and critically panned release of her entire career. For an artist of her caliber, especially someone who releases music as frequently as she does, there are bound to be misses in her catalog. It happens, and any artist with a decades‑long career is bound to have duds, especially one examined under a microscope in the way Taylor so often is. What makes this album stand out as particularly worse than some of the other misses is just how truly bad the weakest songs are.  For a project like this to come from a woman who has shown, time and time again, how much she's capable of, it feels so subpar and indicative of a wider problem in Taylor's career right now. The question I'm left with after hearing this album is why? Why does she feel the need to keep ch...
