"bad idea, right?" by Olivia Rodrigo // 7" vinyl exclusive from Interscope

Image
"seeing you tonight...it's a bad idea, right?" "bad idea, right?"   may actually be my favorite song by   Olivia Rodrigo   yet, it's just so addictive to listen to! It was my second most-played song of 2023 , so clearly I couldn't get enough of it!  The lyrics to this song are very tongue-and-cheek, written as if it's a conversation between friends, which in a way is what the song actually started as between her and her collaborator Dan Nigro, who produced and co-wrote the song.  "Yes, I know that he's my ex, but can't two people reconnect? I only see him as a friend, the biggest lie I ever said, oh, yes, I know that he's my ex, but can't two people reconnect? I only see him as a friend, I just tripped and fell into his bed" she sings in the chorus.  "I wrote it in New York. Me and my friend, Dan, were at  Electric Lady Studios , and I was telling him about one of my fun escapades. I sent this guy a text: 'seeing yo...

Short n' Sweet by Sabrina Carpenter // Album Review

Image
Sabrina Carpenter 's Short n' Sweet is a vibrant blend of sugar, spice, and everything nice! These twelve tracks are truly future pop classics. She somehow finds a way to deliver the most infectious hooks with true sincerity and raw emotion, all while also unexpectedly incorporating so many hilarious and quotable one liners. The album's title doesn't necessarily only pertain to her short stature, which is five feet to be exact, but more so is a reference to her love life and the most impactful relationships she's had. In an interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music, Sabrina explained, "I called it Short n' Sweet for multiple reasons. It was not because I'm vertically challenged...I thought about some of these relationships and how some of them were the shortest I've ever had, and they affected me the most." Although the virality of songs like "Nonsense" and "Feather", along with a string of massive festival performances and o...

Late Night Talking by Harry Styles // 7" vinyl, CD & behind the scenes zine

Image
Now you're in my liiiiife, I can't get you off my mind! The "Late Night Talking" collection was released around September 2022 and was an exclusive release for Harry Styles ' webstore. It included a 7" black vinyl featuring "Late Night Talking" on side A and the song's instrumental on side B. I also have a copy of the CD single as well, which was released alongside the vinyl on his webstore. I love the simple, classic design with a pop of bright orange on the center label of the vinyl and the CD. The cover is a still from the music video, which is kind of a random and unexpected choice for the single release but still captures the lighthearted nature of the song and video. "Late Night Talking" is the second track on his 2022 album  Harry's House , which he debuted at Coachella earlier that year when he was headlining. I must have watched that clip of him performing it a million times, so I was already loving this song long before i...

"ME!" by Taylor Swift featuring Brendon Urie // 5 Year Anniversary Song Review & Limited Edition Vinyl Picture Disc

Image
"ME!" was released as the lead single off of Taylor Swift 's seventh album,  Lover , which in many ways represented a fresh start for her in her career. For better or worse, it also remains among the most divisive, but important, songs in Taylor's discography for many reasons. It's hard to believe it's already been five years since it's release - since then she has put out a total of nine albums and counting, which is crazy to think about. Clearly a lot has happened in those years and it felt like the perfect time to look back on this interesting blip in Taylor's catalog.  "ME!" is definitely a cute and uplifting song, meant to be a celebration of self-love and confidence. I appreciate the positivity and the sentiment behind making a song like this. With the  Lover  album celebrating every kind of love, it was really fitting for there to be a song about loving yourself on it like this, as cliché as it may be at times. When she announced the s...

GUTS by Olivia Rodrigo // Album Review

Image
GUTS  is the highly anticipated sophomore release from Olivia Rodrigo , following up her massively successful debut album, SOUR , in 2021 . To have the level of success she has had right out the gate with her first-ever single "driver's license" in early 2021 is so rare and she quickly became one of the most notable pop artists to debut this decade so far. There are a lot of songs that I have come to really enjoy on this album, some of which are among my favorites of the entire year so far. When comparing  GUTS   to  SOUR ,  they are alike in a lot of ways, both sonically and aesthetically. In my opinion,  GUTS  builds upon the foundation she and her producer/co-writer, Dan Nigro, set in place with  SOUR  really well. Olivia is in such an interesting and unique position as an artist right now. The closest, or most recent, comparison I have to it is where Billie Eilish was at with her career a few years ago after her debut album . Both her an...
