Being Funny In A Foreign Language is the fifth album by The 1975 and one that not only surpassed all of my expectations, but also encapsulates everything that made me fall in love with their music when I was 15 years old. When they announced the album in early 2022, they captioned the post; "Your new album. Your new era. Your old friends. The 1975." which really feels so perfect since it truly feels like a return to their classic sound that we all know and love from the band.   "Every record I've made, I convinced myself that I had so much to prove, so it had to be about everything that ever happened, everything that's happening now, and everything that could ever happen. But on this record, I said, 'Instead of a magnum opus, what about more like a polaroid?" In September 2022, in support of their fifth studio album Being Funny In A Foreign Language , The 1975 recorded a live version of one of their new tracks, "All I Need To Hear" at Real World Studios in Wiltshire, England. This is the version that was featured in the band's music video for the song, in the same room where the rest of the album was primarily recorded. I love that this version of the single finally had a physical release on a white 7" vinyl record.  This vinyl was a limited exclusive release on Dirty Hit's website in December 2023. I love the simple design of the vinyl with everything being all white, with an emphasis on the typography on the front and back cover, as well as on the center label. 10 years ago, The 1975 released their debut self-titled album and became one of the most influential alternative rock bands of this generation. So much of The 1975's debut album still feels so fresh, as if it was made just this year. It truly is a testament to how ahead of the time they were in 2013. Aesthetically and sonically, they shaped so much of the culture for both pop and rock music in the years to come and defined the sound for all alternative music artists of the 2010's and beyond.  Although they didn't release a full-length album until 2013, they actually formed the band in 2002 when Matty Healy, George Daniel, Adam Hann, and Ross MacDonald were in school together. With The 1975 's sophomore album, I like it when you sleep, for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it , the band stepped into a bright, post-modern pop world. They stripped away the black‑and‑white aesthetic that defined their self‑titled debut era three years prior and moved into something even more vivid and expansive.
