Despite being a divisive release by Charli xcx at the time, her 2016 EP,  Vroom Vroom, has gone on to become an experimental pop classic that is largely regarded as one of the defining releases to pioneer the hyperpop movement. Made largely in collaboration with producer SOPHIE in just three days, the EP captured two visionaries who were so far ahead of their time that the rest of pop music spent the next decade catching up. Its quick, four‑track runtime stands as a brief but incredibly impactful chapter in Charli's discography, planting the seeds for so much of the groundbreaking work she would go on to make. This stands as the only full‑length project she and SOPHIE ever officially released together, but it was an undoubtedly formative one as well. While Charli has undoubtedly garnered a significant amount of mainstream success in the decade following  Vroom Vroom 's release - especially in the past couple of years post‑ BRAT -  at this point in 2016 she was still larg...

"So I" // Charli xcx Brat summer is officially here! 💚 I've had Charli xcx's new album on a constant repeat all month, it's absolutely one of the best records released this year so far. I have so many thoughts that I will be sharing in my upcoming full review , but until then I thought I'd share a few of my favorites! I usually only share one new song from each new album release on these lists, but between the standard album, the deluxe, and an extra special remix that were released this month - I couldn't resist to highlight them all! The first song I wanted to share from this album is the stunning "So I", which is paying tribute to Charli's friend and collaborator, SOPHIE, who passed away recently. This song is a beautiful memorial to her life and legacy, and the lasting impact she made on all who knew her and love her. It is an incredibly emotional moment from this record and among the best she has ever made to date. "Spring Breake...

brat and it's completely differe nt but also still brat totally redefined the concept of a remix album. To top off the massive year Charli xcx had following the release BRAT , she took the concept of that album and every single song and completely transformed it into something brand new. It takes the idea that every song's concept, or even just song title, can have so many different lives that can be (and should be) explored further than just the original version of it. Many of the songs don't even feature a single lyric or melody from the original versions, but still find a way to expand and evolve the meaning behind each. Charli's approach to this project is as artful as it is groundbreaking and its long overdue for her to finally get her flowers. By embracing the reworking of concepts, Charli showcases the dynamic potential that exists within her music. "I think what's interesting about the remix album... is I was writing the original record when I was in ...
