BENEFIT PRECISELY MY BROW PENCIL: REVIEW

In todays post, I'm going to be sharing my review on the Benefit Precisely My Brow Pencil. I received this product courtesy of Influenster for reviewing purposes - this post is not sponsored and all opinions are my own, as always. Enjoy!

I have the shade 4.5 Medium, which matches me perfectly and is suitable for medium to dark hair with neutral undertones. This is one of the newest shades added to the range, along with 3.5 Neutral, which is best for medium to neutral toned hair. There is a shade for everyone ranging from platinum blonde to dark brown/black hair.

I really don't do much with my brows on a daily basis, the most I use is a brow gel (my go-to is the Essence Make Me Brow Gel Mascara) or just a dark brown eyeshadow to fill in some sparse areas. I never used a brow pencil like this before, so I really didn't know how much practice it was going to take to figure out how to use it.

Luckily, this product is actually very beginner friendly and was easy to use on the first try. I don't really like the look of it alone, so I usually the Essence Make Me Brow Gel Mascara at the end.

The size of the pencil is very thin and has the right amount of pigmentation to create natural hair-like strokes. However since it is so thin, I would expect it to also be easy to break as it gets older and starts to dry out.

The packaging claims the product is waterproof and lasts up to 12 hours, which wasn't my experience with it. I have worn it for less than 12 hours and it was basically gone by the end of the day. It also claims to be "Smudge-proof" which wasn't true for me either. Whenever I made a mistake while applying it, I was able to just rub it off using my finger without any makeup remover or water.

There is only .002 oz of product for this pencil for $24. In comparison to other brow pencils on the market, this is a very small amount of product. The famous Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz pencil is $21 for .003 oz of product and the NYX Micro Brow Pencil is only $10 for .003 oz. The BH Cosmetics Studio Pro HD Brow Pencil is only $7 for .005 oz with all 5 star reviews. From the research I've done, it seems that .003-.005 oz is the standard amount of product to have in a brow pencil. For Benefit to charge so much more than it's competitors, while also being below the average weight standard is ridiculous for just a mediocre product.

Overall, I do like this product but it probably won't become a part of my everyday makeup routine. To be honest, regardless of how this product works, I really can't recommend purchasing it on your own. If I didn't receive this for free, I would never ever pay $24 for just an eyebrow pencil like this. I think the majority of that price tag comes from the unnecessary extravagant packaging (which also feels kind of cheaply made, by the way). Through years of watching makeup-related videos on YouTube, I know that there are better options available at a lower price and there is nothing special about this Benefit brow pencil. $24 is a justifiable price for a product that is unique or will somehow change the way I do my makeup. For example, I paid $24 for the Stila Magnificent Metals Liquid Eyeshadow and the Smashbox Always On Matte Liquid Lipstick both of which are unlike anything on the market and products I use nearly everyday. If I paid $24 for this, I would've felt like I wasted my money. A brow pencil is something that needs to be replaced every few months and I just can't justify having to spend that amount of money for something that only lasts about 3 months.

If you're looking for a cheaper alternative to it, I would recommend the high-rated NYX Micro Brow Pencil or the BH Cosmetics Studio Pro HD Brow Pencil, which according to all of the reviews are the best from the drugstore and basically identical, or even better than, the Benefit one sold for a fraction of the price.

  1. This is such a helpful post! I currently use like a $0.98 eyeliner pencil to fill in my brows and it smudges so much but it works for now. I'd like to buy a highstreet brow pencil or gel, but you never know which ones are worth the money. This post is definitely pointing me in the right direction to which pencil to try out!
