Fine Line by Harry Styles // 5 Year Anniversary Album Review

Image
Harry Styles embarked on the creation of  Fine Line   with a new state of mind, wanting to push himself a little further than he ever has before. It is deeply honest and reflective; he fully embraced his creative freedom and lets it fully shine through in the music. It's fun, fresh and modern, while also incorporating elements of the rockstars that came before him. In an interview with  NPR , he talked about the way his mindset changed going into the creation of his sophomore album, especially following the positive reception of his debut solo album released two and a half years prior.  He said, "I think I had a lot of fear — whether it was conscious or subconsciously — just about getting it wrong. When I listen back to the first album now, although I still love it so much, I feel like I was almost bowling with the bumpers up a little bit. I can hear places where I was playing it safe." With  Fine Line , he fully leaned into some of the weirder psychedelic in...

the coffee's out at the Beachwood Cafe // Los Angeles: July 2024

Image
♥  "the coffee's out at the Beachwood Cafe"  ♥ On my recent trip to Los Angeles back in July, one of the most anticipated destinations was finally getting to visit the iconic Beachwood Cafe! This cute restaurant is located in historic Beachwood Canyon, which is the neighborhood right below The Hollywood Sign. It is also referenced in Harry Styles ' song "Falling", which is a beautiful ballad that truly feels like the heart of Fine Line to me. He sings, "and the coffee's out at the Beachwood Cafe, and it kills me 'cause I know we've run out of thing we can say".  I love visiting places that represent a piece of music history, or places that inspired some of my favorite songs, even if it's just in a small way like this! It's one of my favorite topics to research anytime I'm travelling. Of course, the amount of music and art that was made in and inspired by the city of Los Angeles is literally endless, it's impossible to ...

Four by One Direction // 10 Year Anniversary Album Review

Image
Does it ever drive you crazy just how fast the night changes? One Direction 's fourth album, aptly titled Four , marked significant beginnings and ends for the band. In many ways it marked a new era for all five of them, as they were able to have significantly more creative freedom with the overall creation of these songs. In turn, that elevated the band's sound to something much closer to their own personal influences and life experiences.  It is the best album they made as a band, between the release of  Midnight Memories  in 2013 and  Four  in 2014, they showed such a huge leap in personal growth and were fully solidified as some of the greatest pop stars of all time. There was no one bigger than One Direction at that point in time, they fully dominated music for the five short years they were together and continue to make a lasting impact on the industry. There was nothing like it before and there will never be anything like it again. Four features quite a ...

Late Night Talking by Harry Styles // 7" vinyl, CD & behind the scenes zine

Image
Now you're in my liiiiife, I can't get you off my mind! The "Late Night Talking" collection was released around September 2022 and was an exclusive release for Harry Styles ' webstore. It included a 7" black vinyl featuring "Late Night Talking" on side A and the song's instrumental on side B. I also have a copy of the CD single as well, which was released alongside the vinyl on his webstore. I love the simple, classic design with a pop of bright orange on the center label of the vinyl and the CD. The cover is a still from the music video, which is kind of a random and unexpected choice for the single release but still captures the lighthearted nature of the song and video. "Late Night Talking" is the second track on his 2022 album  Harry's House , which he debuted at Coachella earlier that year when he was headlining. I must have watched that clip of him performing it a million times, so I was already loving this song long before i...
