strawberries on a summer evening is a collection of some of my essential summer songs, past and present. This playlist is based on some of the songs and artists that have consistently been the soundtrack to my summers over the years, along with some newer releases that I know I will have on repeat all season. Many songs and albums capture the feeling of summer so perfectly for me, which I will be sharing more of in future playlists, but with strawberries on a summer evening I wanted to specifically curate it based on some of my favorite fun, up-tempo, summer bops that I can listen to a million times and never get tired of. 


The title and theme is inspired by the opening lines of "Watermelon Sugar" by Harry Styles, who is an artist heavily featured throughout this playlist. His album Fine Line specifically has always sounded like summer to me and is perfect to listen to this time of year. Artists like Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift, and Dua Lipa have crafted countless summer anthems that are pure pop perfection and also make up a major portion of the songs on this list too. Sweetener, 1989, and Future Nostalgia are some of my favorite albums ever that I always have in my rotation this time of the year. 

5 Seconds of Summer is also frequently included throughout the playlist. Some of my favorite memories ever in my life are going to concerts in the summertime and 5SOS is a band that I have seen live several times over the years. Hearing their music always brings back so many happy memories for me. In August, I'll be seeing them for the fifth time and I am really looking forward to it! I will also be seeing Halsey live in concert for the first time at the end of June and I couldn't be more excited for that too! Her music has been such a big part of my life for nearly a decade. Other artists that heavily influenced the vibe of this playlist are Charli XCX, Lorde, Lana Del Rey and Beyoncé. 

"SUMMER RENAISSANCE" by Beyoncé felt like the perfect song to end this playlist on, so much of her recent release embodies the perfect summer album to me. Her high-energy, carefree vibe on Renaissance inspired the selection of so much of this playlist.

With this series, I want to find a way to share more of my music taste outside of my long-form album reviews and monthly New Music Friday posts. I especially want to spotlight the artists that I haven't found a way to incorporate into my content prior to this, or in a different way than before. I hope you enjoy listening as much as I have! 🍓

MET GALA 2024 // Best Dressed

It's the First Monday in May , which means it is fashion's biggest night out at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Met Gala ! The theme for this year's exhibition is "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion", which blends nature and technology into the art of preserving fragile archival pieces spanning hundreds of years. I always look forward to visiting The Costume Institute's new exhibits every year at The Met and I am looking forward to visiting this one soon! It is made up of 250 timeless pieces from The Met's archive that are too fragile to ever be worn again, which are aptly being called "sleeping beauties". With this exhibit, The Met is putting an emphasis on the convergence of rebirth, renewal, and the preservation of the fashion.  The theme of the red-carpet event that celebrates the opening of the exhibition is "The Garden of Time," which is based off of a short story from 1962 by author J.G. SAFIYA NYGAARD x COLOURPOP COLLECTION REVIEW 🦇♥

For my first post of  the new year, I wanted to share my thoughts on one of my favorite makeup releases, the Safiya Nygaard x Colourpop collection ! Safiya is one of my favorite YouTubers and Colourpop is my favorite makeup brand, so this is a really exciting collaboration!  Safiya consistently makes a variety of really high quality and interesting videos that mainly focus on beauty and fashion. I admire how much time and research she puts into what she does, all of the work that is put into these videos really shows in the finished product. If you haven't watched her channel before, I really can't recommend it enough!  In August 2017, she started a series called " bad makeup science ", which is the basis of this new Colourpop lipstick collection. "ME!" by Taylor Swift featuring Brendon Urie // 5 Year Anniversary Song Review & Limited Edition Vinyl Picture Disc

"ME!" was released as the lead single off of Taylor Swift 's seventh album,  Lover , which in many ways represented a fresh start for her in her career. For better or worse, it also remains among the most divisive, but important, songs in Taylor's discography for many reasons. It's hard to believe it's already been five years since it's release - since then she has put out a total of nine albums and counting, which is crazy to think about. Clearly a lot has happened in those years and it felt like the perfect time to look back on this interesting blip in Taylor's catalog.  "ME!" is definitely a cute and uplifting song, meant to be a celebration of self-love and confidence. I appreciate the positivity and the sentiment behind making a song like this. GUTS by Olivia Rodrigo // Album Review

GUTS  is the highly anticipated sophomore release from Olivia Rodrigo , following up her massively successful debut album, SOUR , in 2021 . To have the level of success she has had right out the gate with her first-ever single "driver's license" in early 2021 is so rare and she quickly became one of the most notable pop artists to debut this decade so far. There are a lot of songs that I have come to really enjoy on this album, some of which are among my favorites of the entire year so far. When comparing  GUTS *  to  SOUR *,  they are alike in a lot of ways, both sonically and aesthetically. In my opinion,  GUTS  builds upon the foundation she and her producer/co-writer, Dan Nigro, set in place with  SOUR  really well. Olivia is in such an interesting and unique position as an artist right now.
