Happy August! salt air & the rust on your door is the ideal beach playlist for me. The title and theme is of course inspired by the opening lines of one of my favorite songs ever, "august" by Taylor Swift. Folklore is such an inspiring work of art and will always be an essential summer album for me, one that I have written about many times. I was also inspired by so many of my favorite artists with this summer playlist. For me, these all capture the feeling of summer in different coastal settings all over the world, some places I have been to and others I have not. From the West Coast, that serves as the biggest presence in all of Lana Del Rey's writing and always takes me back to my greatest memories visiting California a few summers ago. From the East Coast, specifically New Jersey and the beaches I grew up going to, represented in Bleachers' Take The Sadness Out Of Saturday Night. To the beautiful New Zealand beaches that inspired Lorde's Solar Power - and everything in between. 



Lana Del Rey's vivid songwriting has a way of transporting you right to California in a way like now other. All of her music embodies everything I love about summer in different ways. I particularly included a lot of her 2017 album, Lust For Life, in this playlist because it is not only so sonically versatile, but it is also so representative of the themes of getting lost in the memory and living for the hope of it all. I will always hold Lust For Life in a special place in my heart because it came out right before I went to Los Angeles for the first time in summer 2017 and will always remember listening to it all throughout that trip! 
 
Other artists and albums I love that are heavily featured throughout this playlist and have been on repeat for me all summer include; Haim's Women In Music Pt.3, Mark Ronson's Late Night Feelings, Troye Sivan's In A Dream, and Miley Cyrus' Endless Summer Vacation. 5 Seconds of Summer is also heavily featured, their music always brings back so many happy memories of past summers and going to their concerts. I am seeing them in New York City in just a few weeks and I couldn't be more excited!

GUTS by Olivia Rodrigo // Album Review

GUTS  is the highly anticipated sophomore release from Olivia Rodrigo , following up her massively successful debut album, SOUR , in 2021 . To have the level of success she has had right out the gate with her first-ever single "driver's license" in early 2021 is so rare and she quickly became one of the most notable pop artists to debut this decade so far. There are a lot of songs that I have come to really enjoy on this album, some of which are among my favorites of the entire year so far. When comparing  GUTS *  to  SOUR *,  they are alike in a lot of ways, both sonically and aesthetically. In my opinion,  GUTS  builds upon the foundation she and her producer/co-writer, Dan Nigro, set in place with  SOUR  really well. Olivia is in such an interesting and unique position as an artist right now. SAFIYA NYGAARD x COLOURPOP COLLECTION REVIEW 🦇♥

For my first post of  the new year, I wanted to share my thoughts on one of my favorite makeup releases, the Safiya Nygaard x Colourpop collection ! Safiya is one of my favorite YouTubers and Colourpop is my favorite makeup brand, so this is a really exciting collaboration!  Safiya consistently makes a variety of really high quality and interesting videos that mainly focus on beauty and fashion. I admire how much time and research she puts into what she does, all of the work that is put into these videos really shows in the finished product. If you haven't watched her channel before, I really can't recommend it enough!  In August 2017, she started a series called " bad makeup science ", which is the basis of this new Colourpop lipstick collection. There are 6 lipstick shades that correlate with a shade she created in one of her videos. You can check out the playlist of videos that inspired her collection here . After stepping out in 2021 with his first solo venture outside of his band, 5 Seconds of Summer , Luke Hemmings is back again with a stunning new EP called  boy . Much of this seven song EP picks up where his debut album,  When Facing The Things We Turn Away From ,   left off with looking back on his youth trying to process all that he went through, while still looking onward into the man he is becoming. Every song was produced and co-written with  Sammy Witte , who Luke also worked with on his debut album. Sonically, they also build upon the foundation of that album throughout boy .
