"The Good Side" by Troye Sivan // Song Review

Image
"The Good Side" stands out as one of the most heartfelt and introspective moments in Troye Sivan 's entire discography. Released as a part of his 2018 sophomore album Bloom , the track is a beautiful reflection on the aftermath of a breakup, but not necessarily from the perspective of heartbreak, but from the complicated view point of someone who was able to walk away from that relationship relatively unscathed emotionally. In an interview with Zane Lowe on Beats 1 Troye said, "This song's a little rough. It's basically about a breakup that I went through a while ago. You know, in a breakup, I think just the sheer nature of it, is that someone is going to get it rough. And I happened to be on the good side of things..."   "I got the good side of things, left you with both of the rings," Troye sings in the opening verse. "My fingers danced and swayed in the breeze, the change in the wind took you down to your knees, I got the good side of y...

"What Was I Made For?" // Billie Eilish "What Was I Made For?" was one the final songs revealed before Barbie premiered, and without giving any spoilers, it had incredible placement in the movie. This is truly such a heart-wrenching and emotional song. Literally every single person in the theater was crying during that scene. Even now, it's been over a week since I've seen it and I'm still thinking about how incredible this part was. The entire soundtrack is great, but "What Was I Made For" is one of the best songs made for a soundtrack in a very long time. It works so well in the context of the movie, but also in the context of Billie's personal life. It is very much in the same vein as songs like "everything I wanted" and "Male Fantasy" , as well as "Love Is Pain" by Finneas .  Billie said in an interview that the process of writing this song for the Barbie character in the movie was " like I'm wri...

"Modern Girl" // Bleachers  New Jersey's finest New Yorker is back and better than ever with "Modern Girl", the first song off of Bleachers ' upcoming fourth album. This song is pure joy and encapsulates all of the things I have always loved about the band. It is so high-energy with lyrics like, "all the modern girls shakin' their ass tonight". The line about being a "pop music hoarder" is so great too! I can only imagine how incredible this song is going to be to hear live, as it feels like such a celebration of the band, their fans and the incredible atmosphere their shows create. 🍅 "love is embarassing" // Olivia Rodrigo Olivia Rodrigo 's latest album GUTS has been on repeat all month and I truly love every song off of it. One of my favorite tracks from it is "love is embarrassing" , which is simply a great pop song about a rollercoaster of emotions. I love the lyricism too, it's so catchy. The line ...

"Is It Over Now? (Taylor's Version) (From The Vault)" // Taylor Swift Words can't describe how much I love 1989 and I've been anticipating the release of Taylor's Version ever since she announced the re-recording of her first five albums. Now that it's finally here, it is better than I could've ever imagined! I can't wait to share my full  1989 (Taylor's Version)   review soon because it is absolutely incredible in every way! I have been loving all of the tracks newly-released From the Vault , especially the final song, "Is It Over Now?" It details the ups and downs she experienced at this time in her life as she wonders if her relationship is really done. It is so catchy, brutally honest and fits so well with the rest of the album. It draws many parallels to songs like "Style" and "Out Of The Woods". Plus, she's so real for threatening to jump off a building over a certain British boybander - iykyk.  ...

"Talk Talk (Remix) // Charli xcx & Troye Sivan In honor of Charli and Troye 's joint SWEAT Tour kicking off this month, they released a new BRAT remix of "Talk Talk" which is so iconic! It also features a cute cameo from Dua Lipa at the beginning and end speaking in French and Spanish. I love that Troye really transformed it into a completely different song, but one that is still just as great as the original. Charli also finally announced the full BRAT remix album too, with every song from the original being reworked into something completely new and different. All of the remixes that have been released so far have been nothing short of perfection!  Brat and it's completely different but also still brat  is set to be released this October and I am veryyyyy excited to hear it! Check out my full review of BRAT by Charli xcx! "Ego" // Halsey "Ego" is about Halsey breaking down the two sides of herself - Halsey, the popstar persona, and As...
