The Best Songs of October 2023 // New Music Friday!

"Is It Over Now? (Taylor's Version) (From The Vault)" // Taylor Swift

Words can't describe how much I love 1989 and I've been anticipating the release of Taylor's Version ever since she announced the re-recording of her first five albums. Now that it's finally here, it is better than I could've ever imagined! I can't wait to share my full 1989 (Taylor's Version) review soon because it is absolutely incredible in every way! I have been loving all of the tracks newly-released From the Vault, especially the final song, "Is It Over Now?" It details the ups and downs she experienced at this time in her life as she wonders if her relationship is really done. It is so catchy, brutally honest and fits so well with the rest of the album. It draws many parallels to songs like "Style" and "Out Of The Woods". Plus, she's so real for threatening to jump off a building over a certain British boybander - iykyk.

"Illusionist" // Mitch Rowland

I was so happy to hear that Mitch was embarking on a solo career earlier this year and have been anticipating this album for months! He is such a talented musician who has played a part in the creation of so many of my favorite songs ever and some of the best concert experiences of my life. I have been non-stop listening to Come June since it was released and I'm always finding a new song from the album that I love. Mitch is also such a talented songwriter; I love how introspective and honest he is in his writing. I love the soft sound of his music, it feels very reminiscent of the singer-songwriter folk artists of Laurel Canyon in the 1970's. "Illusionist" is one of my favorites from the album, which I had the chance to hear him perform live this month in such an intimate venue. I also had the chance to meet him, which was such an unforgettable experience!

Check out my experience hearing this song live & meeting Mitch Rowland!

"Thick Skull" // Paramore & Julien Baker

Paramore released Re: This Is Why, which is not quite a remix album, but more so serves as a reimagining of This Is Why by a variety of different artists. This Is Why is one of my favorite albums of the year and I loved hearing artists like Remi Wolf, Claud, and Wet Leg interpret this album into something so different from the original. One of my favorites from this album is Julien Baker's take on the album's closer, "Thick Skull". Julien does such a great job and really makes it all her own, she was the perfect artist to choose to reimagine this song. The added electric guitar and vocal effects elevate it so much. It is such a powerful rendition!

"Voyager" // boygenius

As a follow up to their incredible debut, the record, boygenius is back with more on their EP titled the rest. This is such a beautiful and simple acoustic ballad, led by Phoebe Bridgers. The background harmonies are so gorgeous and so lyrically vivid.

"One of Your Girls" // Troye Sivan

I have loved all of the singles leading up to the album's release, and "One of Your Girls" is just as great. Troye Sivan's long-awaited new album is full of great dance pop tracks like this - definitely some of his best work yet!

"I Knew You Were Trouble - Spotify Singles" // Sabrina Carpenter

As a Spotify singles release, Sabrina Carpenter released a beautiful new acoustic version of her song "Feathers", as well as a cover of Taylor Swift's "I Knew You Were Trouble". I love the way she made this classic all her own with this new arrangement. I have been really loving all of her music lately and I highly recommend checking out her too!

"Cruel Summer (Live From The Eras Tour)" // Taylor Swift

In celebration of the release of her Eras Tour concert film earlier this month, Taylor Swift released the live version of her incredible track, "Cruel Summer". It is one of my favorite songs she has ever made and this live version gives me chills listening to it! I hope this is just the beginning of her releasing the live recordings from this tour!
