The Best Songs of December 2025 // New Music Friday!

"Sold Out" by Gracie Abrams, Bon Iver & Aaron Dessner

Gracie Abrams, Justin Vernon, and Aaron Dessner came together to create a deeply special song honoring the lives lost to gun violence. It's a heavy and important piece of music, written with such clarity and emotional weight. "Sold Out" captures not only the grief of where the world is right now, but the tragedies that continue to happen far too often, in the US and beyond.

Alongside the release of the song, they shared; "We made this song last year in the wake of a school shooting. I was reminded of it this week as our hearts were broken yet again. It's a sad one to share during the holidays, but the world is hurting and we shouldn't look away."
The song isn't available on streaming services currently, but you can purchase it through Gracie's Bandcamp. All proceeds are going to Everytown, which is an organization committed to reducing gun violence.

"Such A Funny Way" by Sabrina Carpenter

To celebrate the end of such a massive year for Sabrina, she released a special bonus track from Man's Best Friend onto streaming. "Such A Funny Way" is a song that had previously only been available through her webstore. It's such a fun addition to that universe, and it fits perfectly into the world she built with the project. She officially released it on Christmas, calling it a gift for “...whoever needs a cathartic Christmas Crashout song," which is a genre that she truly does best!

"4 Raws Remix" by EsDeeKid & Timothée Chalamet

Rumors have been circulating for a while about Timothée Chalamet and underground UK rapper EsDeeKid being the same person, and they fully leaned into the meme this month. Timothée ended up featuring on a remix of "4 Raws" in support of his new film Marty Supreme - which has nothing to do with this, but that's kind of what makes it even better! The audio isn’t officially on streaming, but the music video is up on YouTube if you want to check it out. He's truly a marketing genius, and watching the rollout for this film over the past couple of months has been so entertaining. Plus the remix is (not surprisingly) actually really good. Timothée is such a versatile and underrated musician, and it's always fun seeing him tap into that side of his creativity.

"Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" by St. Vincent

A sweet little holiday release from St. Vincent arrived this month, with her cover of the classic "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" featured on the Oh. What. Fun. film soundtrack.

"Dread - The Moment" by A.G. Cook

Earlier this year, Charli xcx announced The Moment, which is set to be a sort of BRAT‑era mockumentary, based on an original idea by her and written and directed by Aidan Zamiri. Charli's close friend and core collaborator A.G. Cook is composing the original score, and "Dread" is our first glimpse into what he’s building for the film. The release of both the movie and this track was first teased back in April at the end of Charli's iconic Coachella performance, and hearing it now in this new context makes the anticipation even stronger. The Moment is set to be released in January 2026, and I’m really looking forward to seeing their vision come to life.

This was a much shorter post than usual since many artists slow down on releasing new music at the end of the year, but there were still a few gems worth highlighting. This is my last New Music Friday post of 2025, and I wanted to thank everyone who has taken the time to read this series each month. This closes out my third year of compiling my favorite monthly releases, and I'm so excited to continue it into 2026 and beyond!

Being able to share such a wide range of artists every month is one of the most fulfilling parts of writing for me, and I'm never not searching for new music to share with you. I have been writing on my blog for over eight and a half years now, and 2025 was by far my biggest year yet. It has been so exciting to see this platform grow through that time and I am so excited to see where it continues to go in the future. I have a few more posts coming in the next few days to close out 2025, including my yearly favorite songs and albums lists, which I hope you will come back soon to check out! Be sure to check out more of my New Music Friday posts here, as well as my song of the week series.☆

Thank you for your continued support, happy holidays!!
