"Sue me" by Audrey Hobert // Song Review

"Sue me" is an unapologetically fun and carefree pop song that captures the chaotic rush of going back to someone you know you shouldn't. It's endlessly catchy and filled with so much of Audrey Hobert's personality. She writes and performs from such a self-aware place, one that is also a little bit awkward in the most charming way. 

This was Audrey's 2025 breakthrough debut single, coming off the success of her collaborations with her close friend Gracie Abrams, co‑writing some of Gracie's biggest songs to date, including "That's So True" and six other tracks from The Secret of Us. Hearing Audrey's solo music now, it's clear how singular her voice is as a writer, with a distinctiveness comes through in everything she's apart of. 

"Broke up with you in November, sorry, I know you remember, are you depressed or are you feeling better? 'Cause you're looking like it's the latter," she sings in the opening verse.

The song was inspired by a very real emotional conflict Audrey was experiencing at the time, depicting the time she back to an ex she knew she shouldn't be with and afterward feeling guilty for leading him on even though she knew she was only in it for the moment.

"It was the fifth song I ever wrote alone and one of the first I made with my producer Ricky Gourmet," Audrey said in an interview with Cosmopolitan. "I was with Ricky the week after I had slept with my ex, who I knew still had feelings for me. I felt pretty bad about it - although it was a nice evening with him, because deep in my heart, I knew I didn’t feel the same way." Her signature stream‑of‑consciousness lyricism shines throughout, which is a trait that is continuously present through the entirety of her debut album Who's The Clown? 

The majority of the chorus is quite simple, driven by the repetition of the line, "Sue me, I wanna be wanted" over and over throughout. It's all delivered in a fast‑paced, breathless style, filled with funny one‑liners that again do such a perfect job of capturing her personality and humor. "Just me or does he look amazing when he's all in his Amazon Basics? Let's rip 'em off, top to bot', let's rock, suddenly all the lights are on, taking it as a sign from God," she continues in the second verse. 

"And I'm sorry that your dog died, sorry that I'm like your dream bride, you'll go to Heaven and I'll go to Hell in the meantime," she sings in the final verse. "Guess I'll see you in a Best Buy, you know that I think you're the best guy, but sue me, I wanna be, sue me, I gotta be...wanted".

The song, like the rest of Who's the Clown? perfectly depicts the messiness and complications that come with navigating the trials and tribulations of dating in your 20s. The way she channels that chaos and those emotional contradictions into something so fun and carefree, all while in a style that is so distinctly her own, truly solidifies her as such a fresh voice in modern pop.

"Wait a Minute!" by Willow // Song Review

"Wait A Minute!" by Willow is such a captivating and introspective song, one that continues to stand out as a highlight from her early work. This song effortlessly blends experimental neo-funk sounds with emotional complexity. Wanting to stop and reflect for a moment amidst a chaotic situation, "Wait A Minute!" gives honest insight into her thoughts on growing up, falling in love and exploring her spirituality. The ethereal and atmospheric production, paired with her engaging vocal delivery really makes this song so memorable. When looking back at Billie Eilish 's career thus far, her sophomore release Happier Than Ever  served as a pivotal stepping stone in her evolution. Sweetener marked a new era for Ariana Grande , one that is representative in every way of the light that came and brought back everything the darkness stole. It is a career defining album that comes after a period of deep, all-encompassing loves and heartbreaks.  That dichotomy was represented in every aspect of this album, including the artwork. It was her first album cover that was in full color, although the photo of her is intentionally upside down to represent her mental state during the album's creation. return of saturn   is a playlist I curated in honor of my 27th birthday today, which marks the beginning of what astrologically is known as my Saturn return, or the moment Saturn reaches its first full cycle and returns to the exact position it was in when you were born. This transition is said to happen between the ages of 27 and 30. I don't know about all of the specifics or the science behind it, but it's a very interesting phenomenon to read about.
